Enviroschools Camp

THe Year 5 and 6 Crusaders attended an Enviroschools camp at the Arahura Marae last week. Our school along with others all along the Coast.  We had a great time: gathering first for a powhiri, then playing "Who am I?",  and later having an evening talk in the whare about the images that stood around us and stories associated with those carvings.

The next day it was an early start to t head down to the river mouth to check the nets set the night before.  We were able to see inanga, tuna,  and bullies.

After breakfast we then went to look at native plants that have traditional beneficial properties for people. then it was a off to look at the wonderful plantings along the Arahura River to discuss why plants are chosen and how being planted adjoining farmed areas benefits them and the river.

It was back to the Marae and we quickly potted some seedlings. Potting seedlings is a quick way to get lots on plants to a reasonable size.

After lunch we had a reflection on our learning. After the poroporoaki we headed off back to our various schools
